s of Hope is offering a free Mental Health First Aid Training on Saturday, April 28, 2018. We are partnering with the Cecil County Health Department to provide this opportunity and it is sponsored by Maryland Department of Health, Behavioral Health Administration and the University of Maryland School of Medicine Training Center.
Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
This course will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Lunch will be provided. Participants will receive a Certificate upon completion. This class is restricted to 20 people and all interested must register online at www.MentalHealthFirstAid. org
. Peers who are seeking the Certified Peer Recovery Support credential will receive 8 hours of approved training in the following domains: 1 hr. Advocacy, 1 hr. Ethics, 2.5 hr. in Mentoring/Education and 3.5 hr. in Recovery/Wellness.
We encourage Peers, recovery house staff and leaders, treatment providers, clergy, family members and the general public to take advantage of this opportunity to be empowered to identify, engage with and support someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. We will be supplying information about local resources to help.
